How to Build a One Page Website

One new trend that is becoming increasingly more popular is creating a simple one page website. If all you need on your website is some very basic information (and maybe a contact form), then a one page website might be the way to go!

What is a one page website?

Yup, it's exactly what it sounds like. It's a website that only has one page. Typically, these websites completely replace the need for having separate pages, by breaking content up into page sections. For instance, a typical simple brochure website might have a home page, an about us page, a services page, and a contact us page. In some cases, each of these pages doesn't have more than a paragraph of information on it. So the question becomes: why not just put it all on the home page and save your visitors a few clicks?

Advantages of a one page website.

Get your website launched faster...or at all.

Creating a website can feel like an overwhelming task. Even when using a simple drag and drop website builder like SnapPages, there is still the daunting chore of creating your own content for every page. In fact, many websites never get fully launched because they just keep getting put on the back-burner until you feel like you have enough time to dedicate to it (which let's face it... if you're a small business owner like me, you never have enough time!). By simplifying the requirements for your website's content, you can get a site up and running in a fraction of the time.

Increase conversions.

Thanks to smart phones, people are used to just swiping and scrolling down to get the content they need. By having all the relevant content a visitor needs on a single page, it allows them to quickly scroll down and understand who you are, and what you do. Today's customers make decisions at a much faster pace so the quicker you can get them the information they need, the more likely they are to follow up with an action.

Higher quality.

By keeping all your content on a single page, it frees you up to spend more time and attention on the all important details. Many times it's the polish that makes the difference between a good site and a great site. When you spread yourself too thin, you're much less likely to spend the time necessary focusing on the little details. A one page website can help you focus all of your attention on a single page which can ultimately lead you to have a much nicer looking end product.

SnapPages makes it easy.

Create page sections.

With the new built in page sections functionality, it's simple to create a one page website. To do this, just add a new section to your home page for every topic that you want to cover (about us, services, contact form, etc.). Then, be sure to give each page section a different color scheme so that they are visually broken up on the page. Lastly, add an appropriate heading to each section so that visitors can quickly find the information they need.

Link to sections

In the section option, there is a text field where you can add a title for the section. Adding a title allows you to link directly to a page section just like you would link to a page by automatically generating an anchor link at the top of the section. For instance if you had a website called "mywebsite.com" and a section titled "About Us", the link directly to this page section would be "mywebsite.com#about-us".

Customize the navigation menu.

If you don't want to see the navigation menu at all on your one page website, you don't have to. To get rid of the navigation menu, just move all of your pages (except for your home page) out of the "Navigation" folder within the 'Pages' section of your SnapPages account. If your navigation menu only has one page in it, then it will automatically be hidden on your website (which removes the navigation menu).

Alternatively, if you'd like to keep the navigation menu on your site to link to the page sections you created, you can do this as well. To do so, go to the 'Pages' section within your account, and create a new "Link" page for every section you want to link to. When prompted to add the URL, just enter the hashtag link for the section you want to link to. For instance, if you want to link to the section titled "About Us", then the URL would simply be "yourdomain.com/#about-us".

That's it!

As you can see, building a simple one page website with SnapPages is a very quick and easy way to get your website up and running! One page websites can be extremely effective, especially with how common mobile browsing is in today's world.

I personally like the website that has single page. No need to jump from one page to another or searching the relevant links.

You know if it all about selling, i guess one page is the best thing. With focus and hard work this is it. One page means focus you know? Direct to the action.
